STOCKTON — As her teammates walked off the floor, Anaya McDavid stayed behind. She grabbed a ball, stood at the free-throw line and put up a couple extra attempts. Practice was over, but not for McDavid.
Right now, though, she’s not Anaya. Call her Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is McDavid’s alter-ego, the ethos she turns on when she walks on a basketball court.
The nickname comes from her father, Jabari McDavid, a Brooklyn native. It takes a certain edge to live in that famous New York burrough. You need some grit, a level of umph.
