Pacific women’s basketball claws back, but can’t finish comeback against visiting BYU

STOCKTON – The Spanos Center had been a place the Tigers made sure opponents got their best effort.

But the Pacific women’s basketball team didn’t have their A-game early against the visiting Cougars with a rash of turnovers, and BYU held off a furious Tigers rally for a 77-74 West Coast Conference victory in front of 515 fans Thursday evening at UOP.

Pacific (9-5, 2-2 WCC) had been 5-0 at home this season and were 8-0 when scoring 70 points or more, but both runs came to an end when Tigers senior Ameela Li’s desperation three-pointer rimmed out of the basket just after the buzzer and the Cougars (13-3, 5-0) remained perfect in league action.
