STOCKTON — Jahlil Tripp, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound, incredibly fast human being, flew down the court on a fastbreak.
Usually, the ideal for Pacific men’s basketball would be for Tripp to continue to the rim.
But as Tripp passed Amari McCray (a 6-9, 270-pound center) near halfcourt, McCray calmly said “slow down.”
Tripp listened, stopped near the 3-point line and dished it to a driving McCray.
McCray, back after missing last season with a knee injury, delivered a teardrop floater with the finesse of a point guard, capping a pivotal surge for Pacific men’s basketball as part of a 69-47 rout of Stanislaus State in an exhibition Tuesday at Spanos Center.
