Pacific season ends in 5-set thriller

STOCKTON - Bouncing back from a 2-0 deficit in a win-or-go-home, best-of-five match undoubtedly counts as one of the more daunting assignments in sports. It’s exactly what the Pacific volleyball team was tasked with Wednesday night at the Spanos Center, and the Tigers almost pulled it off.

Almost.

Pacific forced a decisive fifth set after dropping the opening pair and came up two points shy of keeping its season alive, losing 3-2 to UC Irvine in the first round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championships. Scores were 25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 13-25, 15-13.

Irvine will move on to the quarterfinals of the newly revived tournament, brought back this season after a six-year run from 1989-1995.
