University of the Pacific announced on Monday will be discontinuing its NCAA Division I field hockey program due to budget cuts in the school’s athletic department.
The program will officially be eliminated on June 30, 2019, and will result in a nearly $1 million reduction in the athletic department’s budget. A news release issued by the university stated it does not intend to cancel additional sports, and the decision was announced at this time to allow student-athletes the opportunity to decide their best educational and athletic options.
