Pacific clinches postseason berth

STOCKTON — Behind its longest winning streak since 2003, the Pacific softball team earned an automatic berth into the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championships on Sunday.

Pacific defeated West Coast Conference foe St. Mary’s 4-1 at Bill Simoni Field, giving the Tigers (27-24, 10-5 WCC) their ninth consecutive victory and their third series sweep since returning from a month-long road trip. The championships begin May 16 at a regional site.

Pacific’s last loss was April 15 at BYU, and the Tigers have since outscored their opponents a combined 40-12. Sunday’s victory clinched second place in the WCC, Pacific’s highest finish since joining the conference before the 2013-14 season.
