STOCKTON - It was more of a necessity than a strategy, but the Pacific softball team employed five different pitchers against visiting No. 22 California on Tuesday.
The result was about as well as the Tigers could have hoped. They just couldn’t find the hits to back it up.
Pacific held California to one run on four hits through six innings of play at Bill Simoni Field in Stockton, but four Bears touched home in the seventh for a 5-0 Cal win. The Tigers, meanwhile, mustered just one hit on the afternoon.
By design, Pacific head coach Brian Kolze got the whole staff some work Tuesday; Marissa Young and Hailey Reed split the first four innings, and the trio of Bethany Hammer, Megan Walters and Kenya Lindstrom threw an inning each to finish the game.
