Pacific baseball blanks Portland behind sophomore’s gem

STOCKTON — Sophomore starter Ricky Reynoso threw an eight-inning gem as the Pacific baseball team earned its first West Coast Conference series win in over a month Sunday with a 2-0 shutout of Portland at Klein Family Field.

Reynoso’s three-hit outing powered Pacific, which sits in last place in the WCC standings, even as his offense managed just four hits against Portland starter Kevin Baker (13 strikeouts).

Pacific (15-26, 4-17 WCC) rallied for both runs in the sixth inning as Matt Tarantino doubled and later scored on Danny Mayer’s double. Lucas Halstead’s sacrifice fly scored Ryan Schalch for an insurance run to end the scoring.
