The Pacific Tigers wanted to see how they would fare against one of the top-ranked field hockey teams in the nation.
The verdict: They didn’t win, but their goaltender and overall defense did a nice job against the offensively-potent Maryland Terrapins.
Pacific dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 4 Maryland in Stockton on Friday in the season opener for both teams. Although the Tigers were disappointed in the result, there were some good things to build on.
Except for a nine-minute period in the first half, goalie Marlise van Tonder was tremendous against the Terrapins (1-0), making 10 saves.
