University of the Pacific’s women’s water polo team grabbed an early lead, but couldn’t hold off third-ranked UCLA.
The Bruins beat the Tigers 10-7 on Friday at Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles. UCLA improved to 24-8, and Pacific dropped to 8-8.
The Tigers were able to keep the Bruins off the scoreboard in the first few minutes, and Kyra Christmas scored for Pacific with 6:13 left in the first period.
But the Bruins responded with four consecutive goals to take control of the match.
The Tigers tried to rally inside the final three minutes, with Viktoria Szmidics scoring at the 2:22 mark and Savannah Fitzgerald getting a goal with 42 seconds remaining.
