STOCKTON — After nearly two weeks off, the second-seeded Delta College softball team may have gathered some rust waiting for the start of their postseason run.
It took three innings to shake off a sluggish start, but the Mustangs rallied for a 10-6 victory over No. 15 San Jose in a CCCAA Northern California Regional playoff opener Friday at the Bucky Layland Softball Complex.
The teams square off at noon today in their best-of-three series, with an if-necessary game following afterward.
Delta sophomores Arianna Hernandez and team captain Vanessa Contreras, both Weston Ranch High alums, homered for Delta (35-5) for their second and third round-trippers of the season respectively, while sophomore Hayley Nunes went 3 for 4 with three RBI against San Jose (19-19).
