The Delta College baseball team came one more step closer to their first state championship since 2011 by beating Big 8 Conference foe Sacramento City 9-5 in a winner’s bracket showdown on Sunday at the 2018 CCCAA State Championship tournament at John Euless Ballpark in Fresno.
The Mustangs (42-8) advanced to today’s championship round at 11 a.m., where it will face the winner of Sunday night’s loser’s bracket game between Sacramento City (34-15) and Orange Coast College (34-14), which eliminated Mt. San Antonio 10-4 on Sunday.
Delta, the top-ranked team in Northern California, went ahead 3-0 in the top of the third when Jake Cruce doubled to right field, driving home Zack Mathis and Jordan Vujovich, and Cruce scored on Anthony Lucchetti’s groundout to second.
