The Twitter outpouring came swiftly.
Soon after Cal baseball coach David Esquer left for the same position at his alma mater Stanford, Mike Neu’s name was being floated by Golden Bears bloggers and fans on the internet.
The Pacific head coach who was the Golden Bears’ pitching coach from 2012-2015, was considered a front-runner for the gig.
The rumors were true. Cal announced Neu’s hiring Wednesday, ending his two-season run in Stockton. You can’t blame a coach on the rise for chasing a larger market and potentially greener pastures.
And the Tigers can’t be surprised that a respected and young commodity like Neu (39 years old) would be lured to a power conference like the Pac-12.
