Honoring a friend and teammate

STOCKTON - The field was ready, the bats and balls were in place and the teams stood in the dugout waiting for the start of the first game of the season.

But for the Delta Mustangs, there will always be something - actually, someone - missing this season. Which is why they took a few moments before the start of Friday's game to honor a friend and teammate.

The opening ceremonies on Friday were held in memory of Delta pitcher Calvin Riley, who was shot to death during the summer in San Francisco. Delta will wear uniforms this season with a shamrock insignia featuring Riley's number (27) on it, and his father, Sean Riley, threw out the ceremonial first pitch, while Calvin's teammates, friends and family looked on.
