Sometimes your better players just step up and carry you to a win.
Valerie Higgins did that on Thursday for University of the Pacific's women's basketball team.
Higgins had a season-high 25 points in 32 minutes and the Tigers received plenty of help from their bench as they beat Brooklyn-St. Francis 71-62 in the first round of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena. Pacific (7-3) meets Toledo at 5 p.m. today.
It wasn't the smoothest game of the season for the Tigers, who had 22 turnovers. But they found a way to win.
