STOCKTON — Another strong performance by goalkeeper Marlise van Tonder led the way, and Pacific’s field hockey team finally beat Kent State.
Van Tonder celebrated her America East Defensive Player of the Week award with a seven-save shutout as Tigers beat the Golden Flashes 2-0 on Friday afternoon in Stockton. Pacific (5-3) beat Kent State for the first time since the inception of its program in 1947, and had been 0-5 against the team from the Mid-American Conference.
Pacific has become accustomed to van Tonder’s strong play. The red-shirt sophomore from Pretoria, South Africa represented her country in the Women’s Hockey World Cup this year.
