STOCKTON — Ryan Garko is headed back to professional baseball after two seasons at University of the Pacific, and Chris Rodriguez finds himself in a familiar position.
The university announced on Wednesday that Garko has resigned as head coach of the baseball program and has accepted a position with the Los Angeles Angels. Rodriguez, who has been on the Tigers’ coaching staff since last season, has been named the interim head coach, the second time he's taken over a team weeks before the beginning of a season.
Garko, 39, who played college baseball at Stanford, spent six years as a Major League players with the Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers.
