STOCKTON, Calif. – James Free II has been named to the 2018 Johnny Bench Award Watch List, as one of 13 catchers.
Free has played well defensively for the Tigers accumulating 239 put outs with 30 assists against just three errors. The sophomore catcher has been behind the plate in every game except three. He tallied a season-high 13 put outs in a 4-0 victory against Utah Valley on February 23, 2018.
Offensively, Free leads the Tigers with a .310 batting average through 43 games played. In 48 hits, he has registered 22 RBI, six home runs, one triple, six doubles, and has scored 28 runs.
