Former MLB player hired as Pacific baseball coach

Another product of Stanford University has been hired as the University of the Pacific baseball team’s head coach.

Ryan Garko, a former Stanford assistant and most recently the manager of the double-A Tulsa Drillers, was announced as the Tigers’ new coach today.

Garko is the second Stanford product in the past three hires for Pacific, including St. Mary’s High graduate Ed Sprague Jr. (Pacific coach from 2004-2015). Mike Neu, who was hired as Cal’s head coach earlier this month, coached the Tigers in 2016 and 2017.

Garko was a major league first baseman, designated hitter and outfielder with the Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers from 2005-2010.
