Rarely have newcomers to Stockton ridden a roller coaster as crazy, but ultimately inspiring, as has JayDee Luster's family, with its tale of loss and community outpouring.
Luster is in his first year as an assistant men's basketball coach at University of the Pacific. He moved his girlfriend Tai Massey and toddler Kaius here from San Diego earlier this month.
The young family packed their every belonging into a U-Haul truck, hitched their car to the back and drove to their new apartment in north Stockton.
It was too late to unpack.
