Father, team celebrate life of Riley

STOCKTON - Calvin Riley should be in a Delta baseball uniform Friday, excited to start a new season with his teammates.

Instead, Riley's father, Sean, will throw a ceremonial first pitch in his son's honor prior to the Mustangs' season opener against Gavilan College at 2 p.m. Friday at Nick Cecchetti Field.

Calvin Riley's dream of helping Delta win a state championship this season was snuffed out on Saturday, Aug. 6. That night, Riley played Pokemon GO with friends near Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco. Riley was lured around a corner and shot in the back. Fragments from the bullet that struck his shoulder blade went into his heart, killing the 20-year-old from Lowell, Massachusetts, instantly.
