The Delta College baseball team’s hopes of repeating as state champions ended due to a series of missed opportunities.
The Mustangs left 17 runners on base on Sunday and were eliminated for the CCCAA state tournament by Big 8 Conference rival Sacramento City College 7-6 in 16 innings at Fresno City College’s John Euless Ballpark.
Delta, the 2018 champs, finished the season at 39-9.
“It’s particularly disappointing when you truly believe you had the best team there,” Delta head coach Reed Peters said. “We had plenty of opportunities, that’s for sure. When you leave 17 on base, that’s pretty tough to take.
