STOCKTON — After stumbling Friday against Monterey Peninsula in the opener of its best-of-three CCCAA Northern California Super Regional series, the Delta College softball team knew it needed to win twice Saturday.
Third-ranked Delta’s bats erupted just in time, including three home runs, to carry the Mustangs to 7-3 and 9-3 victories over the No. 6 Lobos on Saturday afternoon at the Bucky Layland Complex to punch their ticket back to the CCCAA state championships Thursday through next Saturday at Bakersfield College.
Delta (36-6) led 3-0 in Saturday’s first game before the Lobos (34-7) tied it at 3-3 after loading the bases with three consecutive bunt singles in the top of the fourth.
