STOCKTON – Expected or not, for the Delta College softball team to return to the CCCAA State Championships for a second consecutive season is a major accomplishment.
But the Mustangs are not satisfied with simply qualifying. Delta quickly dropped two games and was eliminated a year ago, and does not want that history to repeat itself.
Delta (36-6) opens the eight-team, double-elimination tournament against Cypress College (38-7) at 11 a.m. today at Bakersfield College.
Mustangs coach Jim Fisher said that as soon as his veterans arrived for fall practice, improving on last year’s state showing became a theme and long-term goal.
