Delta football coach hopes 1st loss is lesson

STOCKTON — Coaching football at an educational institution is also about teaching. And Delta College coach Gary Barlow hopes his players learned some important lessons going into the second week of the season.

The Mustangs lost a game Barlow feels they should have won last weekend, giving up a fourth quarter lead to Sacramento City College. This past week has been spent figuring why that one got away and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again when the Mustangs host De Anza in their home opener at 1 p.m. today at DeRicco field.

Barlow didn’t question the effort of his team, but was blunt when assessing the season-opening 28-25 loss.
