STOCKTON – The seconds couldn’t tick off the clock fast enough.
The Delta College Mustangs built a two-touchdown lead, but had to rely on their defense to hold off a late nail-biting Chabot rally to win their first game in nearly two seasons with a 29-22 victory over the Gladiators, Saturday afternoon at Lawrence A. De Ricco Athletic Field at Delta College.
Following a winless 2018, the Mustangs snapped a 14-game losing streak that followed Delta’s last victory, a 43-38 win at College of Sequoias Oct. 28, 2017.
Mustangs sophomore quarterback Justin De Mello threw three touchdown passes and the defense recorded a safety and a late interception to help seal the outcome that saw Delta College in control most of the way.
