Taison Corio came up with the big hit to give the defending state champion Delta Mustangs a win in their conference opener.
Corio delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to break up a tied game and the Mustangs beat Santa Rosa 8-6 on Wednesday in the Big 8 Conference debut for both schools at Delta’s Nick Ceccehetti Field. Noah Denoyer (1-0) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in relief to get the win for the Mustangs (12-2, 1-0).
Blake Dickman, who went 3 for 4 with two RBI, led off the seventh with his second double of the game for Delta.
