The Delta College’s softball team’s impressive run at the CCCAA State Championships ended suddenly because of the late-inning offense of Palomar.
The Comets scored five times in the fifth inning and garnered the game-winning run in the sixth as they came from behind to eliminate the Mustangs 6-4 on Monday in Bakersfield. Delta (38-9) went 2-2 in the tournament and took fourth in the state, tying the best finish in school history.
Delta had an excellent chance to get into the top three. It was leading 2-0 and starting pitcher Delaney Pamplin was in firm control, allowing just one hit and no walks through the first four innings.
