STOCKTON — Zack Mathis took a moment — well, actually, a few moments — to admire his towering home run to right field.
Mathis eventually stopped his methodical walk down the first base line and jogged home as the Mustangs took a five-run lead in their CCCAA Northern California Regional playoff opener.
The Bear Creek High graduate Mathis and reigning state champion Delta College baseball announced their return to the postseason with swagger, bludgeoning No. 17 Monterey Peninsula 12-2 Friday at Cecchetti Field.
“I knew it was going to happen,” Mathis said, “so I had to let them know.
