STOCKTON – Delta College coach Gina Johnson knew what to tell her squad in the locker room at halftime.
With the Mustangs leading by a single point Johnson pulled out the “let’s play like we’re behind” pep talk.
It worked as No. 3 Delta shot out on a 12-0 run to begin the second half for a big lead and the Mustangs held off a furious late rally by No. 6 Sierra College for a 70-66 victory over the Wolverines in a CCCAA Northern California Regional final Saturday evening in Blanchard Gym at Delta College.
The win earned the Mustangs their way into this week’s CCCAA state championship women’s tournament starting Friday at Ventura College.
