Cal hires Pacific baseball coach

After two seasons in Stockton, Mike Neu is heading back to Berkeley.

The Cal baseball team announced its hiring of Neu as head coach on Wednesday, ending a two-year tenure at Pacific for the former big league pitcher and Stockton Mudville Nine minor league player.

Neu was Cal’s pitching coach from 2012 to 2015 before taking the job at Pacific to replace former coach Ed Sprague Jr., who now works in the Oakland Athletics organization.

Pacific went 40-65 in two seasons under Neu, who wasn’t able to turn in a winning campaign with the Tigers, but whose recruits proved worthy even as underclassmen.
