STOCKTON – Sometimes it pays to call timeout.
With the bases loaded, two out and the score tied in the bottom of the sixth inning Sunday, Pacific called timeout as Lucas Halstead was stepping into the box. Before San Diego pitcher Nate Kuchta could get into his windup, Halstead halted the contest.
It paid off.
Halstead, who went 2 for 5 with two RBI, deposited the next offering into center field, plating Alex LeForestier and James Free on the way to a thrilling 9-7 West Coast Conference win for the Tigers at Klein Family Field.
“He (third-base and head coach Ryan Garko) called me over after their head coach went out and talked to their pitcher,” Halstead said.
