About two weeks ago, Washington State needed a score to force double overtime at Oregon. Quarterback Luke Falk had already thrown over 70 passes in the game, so his right arm might have been a bit sore, but he was willing to take on some physical pain beyond that. Falk threw his body toward the goal line, absorbed a painful crunch to the ribs, and delivered the tying score that paved the way to the Cougars' 45-38 victory.
And though he staggered off the field in visible pain, Falk doesn't acknowledge any discomfort after the fact.
"I actually felt pretty good," he laughed.
