The Tempe City Councilman who landed in the hospital after Sparky the Sun Devil mascot jumped on his back has filed a claim with the Arizona Board of Regents that could cost Arizona State University up to $123,206.44.
David Shapira filed the claim against the Arizona Board of Regents on Nov. 2, 2015 for the injury that occurred on Sept. 18, 2015. Shapira spent four days in the hospital after the incident and his insurance, which is provided by the City of Tempe, was billed $27,060.02. He requested $92,146.42 to be paid to himself for damages.
