SHORT HILLS, N.J. - At just 22, Mika Zibanejad has already moved past the greatest Senator of all-time in an offensive category.
He has now scored more career shootout winners than fellow Swede Daniel Alfredsson.
Zibanejad ended Saturday’s game in San Jose with his fifth, breaking a tie he had with Alfredsson and moving to within four of Jason Spezza’s franchise mark.
Zibanejad has two shootout game-deciders this season, or one less than league-leader Aleksander Barkov of the Florida Panthers. His 3-for-6 overall record in shootouts, combined with Bobby Ryan’s 5-for-7, gives Ottawa two of the most dependable players in the tie-snapping skills contest.
