WASHINGTON, D.C. - Kyle Turris is making up for lost time.
By suiting up in his 293rd consecutive game Wednesday night, the 26-year old Senators centre moved past Alexei Yashin to establish the second longest Ironman streak in franchise history.
Turris' determination to play through pain stems, in part, from the fact his career got off to a staggered start in Phoenix, where he had a lengthy contract dispute, injuries and troubles cracking the lineup when healthy.
"I missed a lot of games in my career so far, I feel like I missed enough that I don't want to miss any more," Turris, who is now 18 games shy of Chris Phillips' team record Ironman streak, said at Verizon Center Wednesday morning.
