Slumping Senator Brassard needs to get selfish, shoot more

For a team that averages more shots on goal than all but six others in the league, the Senators don’t pull the trigger nearly enough.

Especially Derick Brassard, whose slump has now reached double digits.

“I yell at him every day, because I’m never going to get mad at him for shooting the puck,” Brassard’s winger, Bobby Ryan, said without realizing the Yogi-ism. “Especially because he’s got a great shot.”

Guy Boucher has similar daily conversations with Brassard, the most recent of which was at Monday’s tuneup for a game in Music City.

“He fills the net in practice,” said the Senators coach.
