Sens rookie Chabot gets top pairing

Thomas Chabot made his debut in pretty good company Monday night.

As the Senators No. 1 pick (No. 21 overall) suited up for his first pre-season game in a split-squad against the Maple Leafs, the 18-year-old from the QMJHL's Saint John Sea Dogs was paired alongside captain Erik Karlsson, and he got an assist on Bobby Ryan's power play goal that gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead in first.

Chabot, 18, wasn't exactly nervous.

"I'm more excited than nervous," said Chabot following the morning skate. "I'm more excited to play first game and I'm excited to play my first game with a player like Karlsson.
