BOSTON - For the Ottawa Senators, it was a bright light in a dismal season, at least sending them into the summer with some smiles.
For the Boston Bruins, it was a dog day afternoon, almost beyond belief, most likely sending them into the summer full of deep regrets and even deeper disappointment.
Somehow, a Senators lineup full of American Hockey League call-ups posted a 6-1 romp at TD Garden Saturday, rolling over a Bruins team which needed to win in order to keep realistic playoff hopes alive.
There remains the slimmest of hopes for the Bruins to qualify for the post-season – they’ll make it if Philadelphia fails to pick up at least two points against Pittsburgh later Saturday and the New York Islanders Sunday -- but in a game they absolutely needed to have – the Senators took control.
