GLENDALE, Ariz. — If the hockey thing didn’t work out for Ottawa Senators defenceman Fredrik Claesson, he could have had a career in football.
As a referee.
We know that because we’ve finally seen his extended arms-in-the-air goal celebration, just like a zebra signalling a touchdown.
In his 36th career NHL game, and his 20th this season, Claesson found the range in Wednesday’s 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars. After Zack Smith won a draw, the puck squirted back to Claesson, whose self-described “knuckle puck” shot eluded Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
Claesson will never forget the goal.
