The Senators will give the kids a chance.
The Senators confirmed their 24-man roster of hopefuls for the rookie tournament which gets underway Sept. 11 against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Budweiser Gardens in London, Ont. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens' rookies will be the other participants.
Twelve players on the roster -- including Matt Puempel, Mikael Wikstrand, Buddy Robinson and Tobias Lindberg -- were drafted by the club while goaltender Matt O'Connor, signed as a UFA from Boston University in May, will share the net along with Chris Driedger.
Ottawa assistant GM Randy Lee said Thursday the rookie tournament is a good chance for the organization to find out where players stand.
