While Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion is at the NHL draft combine in Buffalo this week to size up the future, the club has effectively said goodbye to a past prospect.
Mikael Wikstand, the once promising Swedish defenceman, signed a four-year contract with Farjestads BK Karlstad Monday, all but ending his stormy relationship with the Senators.
At training camp last season, the Senators had high hopes for Wikstrand, the club’s seventh round pick (196th overall in 2012), believing he could be either a depth defenceman in Ottawa or a top defenceman with the AHL team in Binghamton.
