OTTAWA - Eugene Melnyk is mapping out the Stanley Cup parade route — right down the middle of LeBreton Flats.
As Melnyk glanced at the screen in Room 324 of the National Capital Commission’s headquarters on Elgin Street on Thursday afternoon, the Senators owner had to take a second look to make sure he had it right when it was confirmed in big bold letters that Rendezvous LeBreton is the preferred bid to redevelop a prized parcel of land just west of downtown.
“It’s a big, big thrill,” said a relieved Melnyk.
The Senators have always believed the road to future success involved the construction of a downtown arena and the decision by the NCC paved the way for that to become reality as the club’s $3.
