OTTAWA — The Hamburglar is back.
In what can only be called a surprising turn of events, the Senators have decided to give goalie Mike Condon a break Tuesday night, with Andrew Hammond starting between the pipes as the St. Louis Blues are welcomed to the Canadian Tire Centre.
Instead of allowing Condon to make his 28th straight appearance, the Senators have opted to go with Hammond, who hasn’t started since he suffered a high ankle sprain against the New York Islanders on Dec. 21 in Brooklyn.
In fact, Hammond, who played 9:09 in Saturday’s 4-0 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on the road, has made only five appearances the entire season.
