TORONTO — Welcome home, Alfie.
Daniel Alfredsson may have been in the heart of enemy territory in the Battle of Ontario on Tuesday, but the former Senators’ captain was welcomed with open arms after being sworn in as a Canadian citizen along with his wife Bibbi Backman during a ceremony as part of the World Cup of Hockey.
He was introduced as "No. 11 Daniel Alfredsson" when accepting his certificate.
A senior adviser for Team Sweden at the tournament, Alfredsson, 43, took a break from his duties and, when they sang 'O Canada' to end the ceremony with the other 101 new citizens, it took on new meaning.
