The Ottawa Seantors have traded Curtis Lazar to the Calgary Flames.
The Senators will receive Calgary’s second round pick at June’s NHL entry draft and defenceman Jyrki Jokipakka. The Senators also sent minor league defenceman Mike Kostka to Calgary in the deal.
The trade signals a fresh start for Lazar, who was drafted 17th overall in 2013. The formerly highly touted prospect, who served as captain of Canada’s world junior team, could never find a home with coach Guy Boucher.
Lazar, who has only one assist in 33 games, missed training camp with mono. He began his season with Binghamton of the AHL, but struggled to find ice time on a fourth line.
