With a number of coaching vacancies to fill this offseason, the Senators crossed one off their list by announcing today that Kurt Kleinendorst would be returning to the organization as Binghamton’s next head coach.
The short history lesson is that Kleinendorst won the Calder Cup in his first season as Binghamton’s head coach. Coupled with having success as the head coach of the U.S. National U-18 team for the previous two seasons, the 2011 Calder Cup championship helped solidify Kleinendorst’s reputation as a coach on the rise.
Unfortunately for him, this momentum was stunted thanks to the graduation of Ottawa’s best young prospects to the parent level.
