The Senators have reached overseas to Sweden to add to their crop of defencemen.
The Senators confirmed Wednesday they’ve signed blueliner Andreas Englund, a second-round pick in 2014, to an entry-level contract. Englund spent this season with Djurgarden in the Swedish Elite League he’s ready to come to North America to see if he can push for a spot in the NHL.
Assistant GM Randy Lee saw Englund play earlier this season and the Senators believe it’s time for the 20-year-old to make the move. If he doesn’t make the Senators, he’ll spend part of next season with the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton but they’re confident he’ll play in the NHL down the road.
