Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson remains the only member of the team who will play in September’s World Cup of Hockey.
As the tournament’s eight teams completed their rosters Friday, no Senators were added.
Senators right winger Mark Stone, fresh from a strong performance with Canada’s gold-medal winning world championship team, was hoping to make the cut for Canada’s World Cup team.
Stone was in tough, given the competition. Ultimately, the Canadian braintrust elected to go with a resurgent Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux, Colorado’s Matt Duchene and Boston’s Brad Marchand, who played on a line with Stone at the world championship.
