EDMONTON - Craig Anderson poured his heavy heart into this performance and when it was over he was overcome with emotion.
Less than a week after learning his wife Nicholle has been diagnosed with cancer, the goaltender rejoined the Senators at her urging because the his teammates needed him back after the club lost backup goaltender Andrew Hammond after the first period of Friday night’s 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames.
Playing under very difficult circumstances, Anderson made 37 stops for his second straight shutout and 35th of his career as the Senators closed out this western road swing with four of a possible six points after a 2-0 victory over Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Sunday night.
